Richard Primack is the author of two leading textbooks in the field of conservation biology, Essentials of Conservation Biology, 6th edition, and A Primer of Conservation Biology, 6th edition. The Essentials is a 600 page book oriented towards undergraduate majors and grad students.

The Primer, at 300 pages, is designed for more introductory students and non-majors and for use as a supplemental text or in short courses. Both books are known for their clear writing style and high-quality figures.

In the spring of 2016, the Introduction to Conservation Biology, first edition, was released with Anna Sher as a co-author. This book is more advanced than the Primer, and at 450 pages is also targeted for undergraduates. A more advanced version of the Essentials is planned for 2018.
